More recognition for Super Eagles saviour v Russia: Arokodare named in Belgian Pro League TOTS
Published: June 11, 2025
Tolu Arokodare has earned a prestigious spot in the Belgian Pro League’s 2024-25 Team of the Season, announced on Wednesday, emphasizing his exceptional campaign.
The 24-year-old forward’s selection as the team’s primary striker highlights his prolific form, having clinched the league’s Golden Boot with 21 goals and the Ebony Shoe Award as Belgium’s best African player.
On the international stage, he was decisive in Nigeria's recent friendly against Russia, scoring after coming off the bench to help the Super Eagles avoid their first loss under manager Eric Chelle.
Arokodare’s inclusion in the Best XI reflects his pivotal role in Genk’s attack despite their Play-Offs struggles.
Arokodare shared the top scorer race with STVV’s Adriano Bertaccini but secured the Golden Boot with more away goals (11 in the regular season, two in the playoffs).
His 21 goals and six assists in 40 appearances demonstrated his clinical finishing and physical dominance.
His performances earned him widespread praise, with fans and analysts lauding his consistency and impact for club football.
The Team of the Season, selected through player votes for the Pro League Awards and Opta’s statistical analysis, features Arokodare alongside Genk teammate Zakaria El Ouahdi at right-back.
Club Brugge dominates with five players while champions Union Saint-Gilloise managed only two representatives
Arokodare’s recognition caps a breakout season, elevating his status in European football.
His ability to deliver in high-stakes matches and outperform expectations at Genk has drawn attention from clubs abroad.
