Rangers star Dessers faces transfer tug-of-war as Feyenoord look to beat AEK to his signature
Published: June 25, 2025
Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers is at the centre of a fresh transfer twist, with Dutch giants Feyenoord reportedly entering the race to sign the Nigerian international, threatening to derail AEK Athens' pursuit of the 30-year-old, according to a report by The Scottish Sun.
Dessers, who was Rangers' top scorer last season with 29 goals in all competitions, has been linked with a summer exit from Ibrox as new head coach Russell Martin looks to reshape the squad.
Despite winning the Scottish Premiership Golden Boot, Dessers has remained a divisive figure among supporters.
AEK Athens have been leading the chase for the forward and were believed to have agreed personal terms with Dessers earlier this week.
However, the Greek side have yet to meet Rangers’ valuation, with the Glasgow club holding out for a higher transfer fee.
Feyenoord are preparing to "drive a wedge" into AEK’s negotiations by reigniting their interest in Dessers.
The Rotterdam club previously had the striker on loan from Genk during the 2021/22 season, during which he scored 20 goals and finished as the top scorer in the inaugural UEFA Conference League.
Dessers' success at Feyenoord included a memorable European run that saw the Dutch side reach the Conference League final, where they were narrowly beaten by Roma.
A permanent move to Italy with Cremonese followed before his transfer to Rangers in 2023.
