'Women are crazy about me' – Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye addresses 'fine boy' tag
Published: June 26, 2025
Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has opened up about the growing female attention he receives due to his good looks, while emphasizing that his primary focus remains on football and improving his performance on the pitch.
The Udinese shot-stopper, who has become a viral sensation on social media for his appearance, made the revelation during an interview on the AySuga YouTube channel.
Despite the public attention, Okoye stressed the importance of discipline and professionalism in his career.
"I don't have to deal with it because I don't want to talk to much about me online," Okoye said.
"As a professional you have to keep things apart, you cannot combine sport with too much women."
Acknowledging the consistent admiration from women, the 25-year-old added: "It has always being part of me because women are always crazy about me but I don't really pay to much attention about it."
Speaking further, the former Sparta Rotterdam goalkeeper dismissed the perception that his looks are his main priority, insisting that his dedication to fitness is purely for professional purposes.
"All the fine boy nonsense. Yeah, I am a fine boy but it is not that I am focusing on it. I was born like that," he said.
"I’m not going to the gym to look good. I am going to the gym to fit, look healthy, and perform better.
"But people think I put everything on that but my priorities are somewhere else than being fine boy."
Okoye, who enjoyed an impressive season in Italy with Udinese, now faces uncertainty off the pitch following reports linking him to a potential betting scandal.
While details remain unclear, the goalkeeper will be hoping to clear his name as he looks ahead to the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers with Nigeria.
As the Super Eagles prepare for a crucial phase in their qualification campaign, Okoye will aim to maintain his form and avoid distractions to remain in contention for the No. 1 spot.
