'It's promising people money' – Plumptre breaks silence on impersonation after Super Falcons win
Published: July 07, 2025
Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre has raised alarm over a case of online impersonation while celebrating Nigeria’s 3-0 win over Tunisia in their opening match at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Plumptre, who played the full 90 minutes at the Stade El Arbi Zaouli, was instrumental in helping the Super Falcons secure a clean sheet and an early lead at the top of Group B.
In her post-match interview, the former Leicester City player expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance but acknowledged the need for improvements.
"I feel really happy obviously it is the first game of the tournament," she told Ademola Victor TV.
"So there's a lot of nerves and excitement going into the first game but to come out with three goals and a clean sheet is a nice way to start the tournament,” she said.
She described the victory as a positive stepping stone ahead of their next group match against Botswana, urging the team to raise their standards in both attacking and defensive areas.
"We will take this as a good stepping stone into the next game. Obviously, we will look back and see what we did well and what we need to improve on going into the next game."
"Because, I think attacking-wise and defensively, we probably could have been a little bit better in terms of our standards but we're happy with the three points," she added.
Beyond the pitch, Plumptre addressed an issue of online impersonation, revealing that a fake Facebook account has been falsely promising people money using her name.
"There have been a lot of cases where people impersonate me, taking my name and saying things.
"There's a Facebook account that's being taken down, but it is promising people money, and things like that and that's just not true," she explained.
She clarified that while she has a personal Facebook account, it has been inactive for years.
"I have a personal Facebook account but I don't even use it. I made years ago, so I think if people were to follow me, I'm on Instagram and I don't really use Twitter that much but any Facebook account is not me.”
Plumptre is expected to remain a key figure for the nine-time African champions as they continue their quest for a record-extending 10th WAFCON title in Morocco.
