Super Eagles camp update: 26 players train under the watchful eye of Eric Chelle

The home-based Super Eagles, also known as the CHAN Eagles, continued their preparations for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) with a boost on Tuesday as five additional players arrived at the team’s camp in Ikenne, Ogun State, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

The camp now hosts a total of 26 players who trained under the watchful eye of Head Coach Eric Chelle at the Remo Stars Sports Institute.

The new arrivals — Musa Zayad from Elkanemi Warriors, Aminu Adam of Kano Pillars, Anas Yusuf of Nasarawa United, Godwin Obaje from Rivers United and Kabiru Mohammed of Kwara United — joined their teammates for Tuesday evening’s session.

Their inclusion has added fresh depth and competition to the squad as Nigeria intensifies preparations to challenge for honours at the continental tournament reserved exclusively for players active in domestic leagues.

The CHAN Eagles had earlier welcomed 21 players on Monday, including Nduka Junior, Adedayo Olanipekun, Sadiq Ismail, Tochukwu Michael, Sikiru Alimi and Hadi Haruna (Remo Stars); Harrison Austin, Adelani Shola and Ayomide Cole (Ikorodu City); Lawal Mustapha (Shooting Stars); Abdulrafiu Taiwo, Taofeek Otaniyi, Ani Henry, Egbe Stephen and Aniekeme Okon (Rivers United); Temitope Vincent (Plateau United); Nurudeen Badmos and Afeez Bankole (Kwara United); Atule Joseph (Enyimba); Kayode Bankole (Remo Stars); and Leonard Ngenge (Ikorodu City).

Coach Chelle has emphasised the importance of early and focused preparation, especially given Nigeria’s placement in Group D of the CHAN tournament alongside defending champions Senegal, Sudan and Congo.

The aim is to build a team capable of matching and surpassing the feat of finishing as runners-up in the 2018 edition.

The addition of the five new players on Tuesday is part of a broader plan to assess as many top performers from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) as possible before finalising the squad list.

Their presence ensures fierce competition for starting spots and strengthens the overall quality of the team.

With more training sessions and possibly friendly matches planned, the CHAN Eagles remain determined to refine tactics, boost fitness levels, and foster unity ahead of the tournament, as preparations in Ikenne gather momentum.
