Published: July 10, 2025
Super Falcons veteran defender Osinachi Ohale has expressed confidence in Nigeria's chances ahead of their second group match against Botswana at the ongoing Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Speaking to journalist Victor Ademola, Ohale reflected on Nigeria's strong start to the tournament, highlighting the importance of their 3-0 victory over Tunisia in the opening game.
"The first game we played against Tunisia, we got the three points and three goals, and our first win," Ohale told Ademola Victor TV.
"It was a good start for the team, the scorers, the goalkeeper, and the defenders to keep a clean sheet. It's something every goalkeeper and defender looks forward to going into a tournament."
With the team set to face Botswana on Thursday at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium, the experienced centre-back emphasized the need to maintain momentum and high standards.
"It was a good step for us and we want to keep those high standards and keep the record going forward and make sure we don't concede goals."
Ohale also underscored the significance of the Botswana match for both the team and Nigerian supporters.
"Tomorrow (On Thursday) is the second game against Botswana, We know how important the game is for us (the team) and for Nigerians.
"We are going to do our best to make sure we get the three points and the win to make them proud and put a smile on their faces."
A win for Nigeria would secure their spot in the quarterfinals, while Botswana will be looking to bounce back after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Algeria in their opener.
