Confirmed: English-born Nigerian centre-back departs Celtic after ten years of service
Published: July 17, 2025
English-born Nigerian centre-back Lenny Agbaire has brought his decade-long spell at Scottish Premiership champions Celtic to an end after completing a move to League One side Rotherham United.
The Millers confirmed the capture of the tri-national defender on Tuesday for an undisclosed fee from Celtic, subject to EFL and FA ratification and international clearance.
Agbaire has signed a three-year contract with Rotherham United, keeping him at the AESSEAL New York Stadium until the summer of 2028.
During his time at Celtic, he represented the Glasgow club in the Lowland League, Trust Trophy and Challenge Cup.
The 20-year-old also featured in the UEFA Youth League, where he made twelve appearances across two seasons.
Agbaire was a key member of the Celtic side that won the Scottish Youth Cup in 2023, playing the entirety of the 6-5 win at Hampden Park.
In search of first team football, he spent the second half of last season on loan at Ayr United, where he made 16 appearances in all competitions.
The paperwork was completed in time for Agbaire to get his first taste of football in the Red and White of Rotherham United during Tuesday's pre-season friendly at Harrogate Town.
He impressed on his non-competitive debut in 45 minutes of action for the Millers, helping goalkeeper Ted Cann keep a clean sheet in a 3-0 win.
Agbaire describes himself as a centre-back, who is fast, strong and good on the ball.
