Official: Outfielder-turned-GK signs new Arsenal contract; eligible for Nigeria, Ghana, England
Published: July 18, 2025
Arsenal’s highly rated young goalkeeper Khari Ranson has signed his first professional contract with the club, marking a major step in his blossoming career after a standout season through the youth ranks.
The 17-year-old shot-stopper, who is eligible to represent Nigeria, Ghana and England, has been with the Gunners since the U10 level.
Ranson played a key role in the club’s success at the youth level, including helping Arsenal win the Liam Brady Cup at under-16.
Known for his sharp reflexes, composure under pressure, and confidence with the ball at his feet, Ranson originally began his football journey in outfield positions before switching to goalkeeping — a decision he says came naturally.
Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, Ranson said: "I kind of played almost everywhere. I was a left winger, I was a midfielder, I was a centre-back.
"I can still sometimes play in the midfield as well, but maybe just not at this level."
He recalled his transition into goalkeeping: "I remember I was playing for my grassroots team and I volunteered to go in goal and naturally I just loved it, just jumping around, making saves, helping the team out as well and also the element of using your feet, which obviously comes into play nowadays, just helping the team, and it's something I enjoyed from very young."
During the 2024/25 season, Ranson was a consistent presence across Arsenal’s academy teams.
He made 11 appearances for the U18s in the U18 Premier League and featured five times for the U21s in Premier League 2 — performances that convinced the club to offer him a professional deal.
Though he has featured for England at the U18 level, Ranson remains eligible to play for Nigeria and Ghana at the senior level.
