Slavia await MRI results as Super Eagles CB Igoh Ogbu suffers injury in season opener
Published: July 22, 2025
Slavia Prague head coach Jindřich Trpišovský has confirmed that the club is awaiting further medical evaluation on Nigerian international defender Igoh Ogbu, who was forced off early in the second half during the team’s 2-2 draw with Hradec Králové on the opening day of the 2025/2026 Chance Liga season.
Ogbu, who recently signed a two-year contract extension with the defending champions, was substituted just nine minutes after the restart due to injury concerns.
He was replaced by David Zima, a change that appeared to unsettle Slavia’s backline, eventually allowing Hradec to snatch a late equalizer and deny Slavia a winning start to their title defense.
Despite initial reports pointing to a possible hamstring issue, Trpišovský was cautious in his post-match comments.
"The first information is that there is something there, he had a finding on the ultrasound, but we will be smarter after the MRI,” the coach told Slavia's official website.
Ogbu’s absence could prove costly for Slavia, who are looking to rebound quickly when they face Bohemians Prague in their next fixture.
The 25-year-old has become a defensive mainstay for the team and is considered crucial to their domestic and European ambitions.
With European competitions set to resume soon, Trpišovský and the Slavia faithful will be hoping for a positive update and a swift recovery for the Super Eagles defender.
Slavia Prague currently sit ninth with a single point after Matchday 1 and will be under pressure to regain momentum in the coming weeks.
