Nigeria centre-back Igoh Ogbu will miss Slavia Prague's upcoming matches

Super Eagles central defender Igoh Ogbu will miss Slavia Prague's Czech First League encounter against Bohemians 1905 after sustaining a muscle injury in the club’s 2025/2026 season opener on Sunday.

Ogbu, who recently penned a two-year contract extension with the defending champions, was forced off in the second half of their 2-2 draw with FC Hradec Králové at Eden Arena.

The 25-year-old was replaced by David Zima in the 54th minute—a change that appeared to destabilize Slavia's backline, ultimately leading to a late equalizer from the visitors.

Confirming the setback on their official X handle, Slavia revealed that an MRI scan had diagnosed Ogbu with a muscle injury, ruling him out of the club’s upcoming matches.

Ogbu’s absence is expected to be a major blow for head coach Jindřich Trpišovský, who is already under pressure to steady the team after a disappointing start.

Slavia currently sit ninth on the league table and will be desperate to bounce back against city rivals Bohemians Prague.

A defensive lynchpin since his arrival, Ogbu has been instrumental in Slavia’s domestic and continental campaigns.

His leadership and commanding presence in the backline have made him one of the team’s most reliable figures.

Trpišovský will now be tasked with reshuffling his defensive options in Ogbu’s absence while hoping for the Nigerian international’s swift recovery.
