Super Falcons starting lineup v Atlas Lionesses: One change as Abiodun starts in place of Echegini
Published: July 26, 2025
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have named their starting XI for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final against hosts Morocco, with one change from the team that edged South Africa in the semi-finals.
Chiamaka Nnadozie, who recently completed a move from Paris FC to Brighton & Hove Albion in the English Women’s Super League, starts in goal.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper has been one of Nigeria’s most consistent performers at this tournament, delivering key saves to keep the Super Falcons in contention.
The back four remains unchanged, with Osinachi Ohale and Ashleigh Plumptre partnering in central defence. Michelle Alozie operates at right-back, while Oluwatosin Demehin retains her position on the left, offering both defensive coverage and attacking support down the flank.
In midfield, the only change sees Deborah Abiodun step in for Onyinyechi Echegini, who misses out due to the injury she sustained in the semi-final.
Abiodun lines up alongside Halimatu Ayinde in the central midfield pivot, combining youthful energy with tactical discipline.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade continues in her advanced midfield role, where she has provided leadership, goals, and creativity throughout the campaign.
The Atlético Madrid star will look to control the pace of the game and link midfield with attack.
Leading the frontline is Chinwendu Ihezuo, Nigeria’s top scorer at the tournament.
She is flanked by Folashade Ijamilusi and Esther Okoronkwo, both of whom have impressed with their speed, directness, and ability to stretch opposition defences.
The line-up reflects continuity and stability, with the coaching crew maintaining the core that has guided Nigeria to its 10th WAFCON final. The inclusion of Abiodun ensures minimal tactical disruption in the absence of Echegini.
With a blend of experience and emerging talent, the Super Falcons will be aiming to silence the home crowd and clinch a record-extending 10th continental title.
The starting lineup: Chiamaka Nnadozie, Osinachi Ohale, Michelle Alozie, Ashleigh Plumptre, Deborah Abiodun Oluwatosin Demehin, Halimatu Ayinde, Rasheedat Ajibade, Chinwendu Ihezuo, Folashade Ijamilusi, Esther Okoronkwo.
