'Big ask' – Five-time SPL top scorer insists Spurs forward is not Dessers' ideal replacement

Five-time Scottish Premier League Golden Boot winner and Rangers striker Kris Boyd has cast doubt on the idea that Tottenham Hotspur youngster Mikey Moore could serve as a direct replacement for Cyriel Dessers at Ibrox.

Dessers, who finished last season as the league's top scorer, has been strongly linked with a move to AEK Athens in Greece.

With speculation intensifying over his departure, Moore, one of Spurs' most highly-rated young talents, has emerged as a possible loan target for Rangers.

However, speaking at the SPFL Season Kick-off Party, as reported by Daily Record, Boyd voiced serious concerns about relying on the 17-year-old to fill the void left by the experienced Nigerian international.

"It could be a good addition," Boyd said. "But even if they bring him in, the Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane situation needs to be addressed one way or another."

"Everybody needs clarity on that pretty quickly. The league starts on Saturday and your two most important players on the pitch are your goalkeeper and your number nine."

Boyd highlighted the ongoing lack of clarity in Rangers' attacking lineup, stating: "Rangers are no further forward as to who their number nine is - the top goalscorer from last season is still being linked with moves away, he's not played a lot of football, and he's still got a level of fitness to get to.

"For me, there's still no guarantee who's going to be that number nine for Rangers."

While Moore has shown flashes of brilliance at youth and senior level, Boyd believes the pressure of leading Rangers' frontline may be too much at this stage of his development.

"If Mikey Moore is to come in, it's a big ask for him to come in and be Rangers' number nine and lead the attack," he added.

With the new season fast approaching, Rangers find themselves in a race against time to resolve the futures of two key attacking players.
