Akpom to decide future: Lens, Olympiakos, Ipswich, Middlesbrough, Birmingham City interested
Published: August 04, 2025
More European clubs have entered the race to sign Ajax Amsterdam striker Chuba Akpom.
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Greek giants Olympiakos, French Ligue 1 side RC Lens and EFL Championship outfit Ipswich Town are the latest clubs to express interest in the Super Eagles hopeful.
Although Birmingham City were the early frontrunners to sign Akpom, the situation changed after Middlesbrough made a late move to hijack the deal on Sunday.
The two English clubs now face growing competition from both domestic and foreign sides, with Akpom expected to make a decision on his future in the coming hours or days.
The 29-year-old, who joined Ajax in the summer of 2023 after claiming the Championship Golden Boot with Middlesbrough, scored 34 goals in 82 appearances across three seasons at the Riverside Stadium.
He also gained Ligue 1 experience during a short-term loan at Lille, where he featured 14 times in the second half of last season.
Birmingham City have launched an aggressive summer recruitment drive, bringing in players such as Bright Osayi-Samuel, Tommy Doyle, Demarai Gray, Taylor Gardner-Hickman, Phil Neumann, Eiran Cashin, Alfons Sampsted and Kyogo Furuhashi.
The Blues are hoping to sign Akpom on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy for €8 million should they secure promotion to the Premier League.
Akpom remains under contract at Ajax Amsterdam until June 30, 2028.
