Uefa Champions League eligibility: Rangers boss reveals fate of new boy Meghoma
Published: August 18, 2025
Rangers manager Russell Martin has expressed optimism that new signing Jayden Meghoma will be registered in time for the UEFA Champions League playoff round clash against Club Brugge at Ibrox Stadium.
The Brentford defender will be spending the entirety of the 2025-2026 season on loan at the Light Blues.
As of the time of reporting, Meghoma's name has yet to appear on the official UEFA squad list for Rangers.
For the qualifying phase and the playoffs, a club may register a maximum of two new eligible players on List A after the August 14 deadline, provided the quota of locally trained players is respected.
This registration must be completed by 24:00 CET the day before the relevant first leg match and the club's association must confirm in writing that the new player is currently eligible to play at domestic level.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Martin revealed that the club is working towards ensuring England youth international of Nigerian descent Meghoma is included in the squad list for the game against Club Brugge.
"I think Jayden Meghoma is going to be registered. We hope so anyway, so we'll have to wait and see but that's the hope so he can be in the squad," Martin told reporters.
The Rangers boss further disclosed that Meghoma has already joined team training and will be assessed ahead of the tie.
"We will see today, yesterday he trained, so we'll see if he's ready to go."
If registered, Meghoma could mark both his Rangers and European debut against the Belgian Pro League outfit.
The Super Eagles hopeful has made 22 senior appearances to date, featuring for Southampton, Brentford and during a loan spell at Preston North End.
