Fulham identify Basel's Nigerian winger as alternative to Kevin and Chukwueze
Published: August 21, 2025
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands Fulham have placed FC Basel's Nigerian winger Philip Otele on their shortlist as an alternative target should they fail to land Shakhtar Donetsk attacker Kevin.
The Cottagers continue to push for the Brazilian forward, but negotiations with Shakhtar are dragging on as both sides struggle to bridge the gap on fee and structure.
If talks collapse, Fulham are prepared to make an attempt to sign Otele, who has been closely monitored by their recruitment team in recent weeks.
The 26-year-old, a former Teesside University student, enjoyed a prolific 2023–24 campaign in Romania, finishing as Liga I's top scorer before joining Basel on a full deal in June.
Otele has caught the eye in the new season, contributing three goals and two assists in his first six appearances for the Swiss champions.
He completed 90 minutes on Wednesday night as Basel were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Copenhagen in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off tie at St. Jakob-Park.
Another Nigerian winger under consideration is Super Eagles star Samuel Chukwueze, who remains out of favour at AC Milan.
The 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup winner has struggled for regular minutes and was an unused substitute in Milan's opening match of the new season under Massimiliano Allegri.
Chukwueze was strongly linked with Fulham on deadline day during the last winter transfer window, but a move failed to materialise.
The Cottagers are now keeping a close eye on his situation as they weigh up wide attacking reinforcements before the close of the summer window.
