Borussia Dortmund in advanced talks to sign Chelsea midfielder Chukwuemeka
Published: August 21, 2025
Borussia Dortmund are in advanced negotiations with Chelsea to secure the permanent signing of midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, with discussions intensifying as the summer transfer window approaches its conclusion.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Dortmund have stepped up their pursuit of the 21-year-old after his loan spell at the Westfalenstadion last season.
Chukwuemeka has expressed a strong desire to return to Germany, while Chelsea have made it clear that they will only entertain offers for a permanent transfer, having already rejected loan proposals with buy obligations.
Chukwuemeka moved to Stamford Bridge from Aston Villa in 2022 in a deal worth around £20 million, but his time in London has been hindered by injuries and stiff competition in midfield.
Despite flashes of promise, he has struggled for consistent minutes in the Premier League.
His stint in the Bundesliga proved more fruitful, with his dynamism and versatility making a positive impact in Dortmund’s midfield.
Club officials were encouraged by his ability to adapt quickly and influence games in both attacking and transitional phases, convincing them to push for his long-term signature.
The move would represent a significant step in Chukwuemeka’s career, offering him the opportunity to continue his development in a league renowned for nurturing young talents.
Final details are expected to be discussed in the coming days, with Dortmund hopeful of completing the transfer before the window closes.
