Confirmed: Burnley loan out forward eligible for Nigeria, Italy, Canada, United States
Published: August 21, 2025
Burnley have confirmed that promising winger Luca Koleosho has joined Spanish La Liga side Espanyol on a season-long loan deal.
The announcement was made on Burnley’s official website on Thursday afternoon.
Koleosho, born in Norwalk, Connecticut, boasts a unique international profile.
He is eligible to represent four countries at senior international level: the United States, where he was born; Nigeria through his father; and both Italy and Canada through his mother.
This rare versatility has already sparked interest from several football federations keen to secure his allegiance in the coming years.
The 20-year-old forward first came to prominence as part of the Italy squad that won the 2023 European U19 Championship.
The loan move will take Koleosho back to the Spanish club where he made his first-team debut before sealing a switch to Lancashire in 2023.
During his initial stint at Espanyol, he featured six times for the first team and scored twice in 14 outings in the Segunda Federación, Spain’s fourth tier.
Koleosho’s loan at Espanyol promises to be a key chapter in his career, providing a platform to showcase his talent on a bigger stage while keeping multiple international pathways open.
