Tough day for Crystal Palace loanee: Goodman sent off in milestone 100th senior game
Published: August 30, 2025
Crystal Palace loanee Owen Goodman endured a difficult afternoon at Oakwell on Saturday, receiving the first red card of his professional career as Huddersfield Town were beaten 3-1 by Barnsley in League One.
The 2023 Flying Eagles invitee has built a strong reputation in English football's lower leagues, having been named the standout goalkeeper in League Two last season during a hugely successful loan spell at AFC Wimbledon.
This summer, the 21-year-old joined Huddersfield on a temporary deal and quickly impressed, registering four clean sheets in his first five league appearances.
But against Barnsley, the tri-national shot-stopper endured his most testing outing yet.
In the ninth minute, Goodman misjudged a Nathanael Ogbeta cross and spilled the ball into the path of Davis Keillor-Dunn, who tapped home from close range to give the hosts the lead.
Matters went from bad to worse when referee Edward Duckworth dismissed him for a reckless high challenge on veteran striker David McGoldrick in the 36th minute.
Barnsley capitalised on their numerical advantage, with Luca Connell doubling the lead before half-time and Keillor-Dunn adding his second late in the game.
Huddersfield substitute Joe Taylor grabbed a consolation three minutes from time, but it was not enough to prevent defeat.
Goodman's dismissal came on what should have been a landmark day for the young goalkeeper, marking his 100th professional appearance.
He played 54 times for AFC Wimbledon, 40 for Colchester United and six for Huddersfield Town.
