Crystal Palace poised to win race for Super Eagles midfielder against his will, Wolves miss out
Published: September 01, 2025
According to Spanish sports daily Marca, Nigeria international Christantus Uche has travelled to England to finalise a deadline-day switch to the Premier League, but not with Wolverhampton Wanderers as initially expected.
Wolves had been considered frontrunners for the Getafe midfielder, with a medical already scheduled after the two clubs reached an agreement.
However, the move collapsed when Uche insisted on remaining in La Liga with Getafe.
The 22-year-old's departure, which had appeared to stall, has now been revived, with Crystal Palace stepping in to secure his services.
Uche has made it clear he would prefer to stay in Spain and has voiced his opposition to the move, which, if finalized, will be completed against his wishes.
Palace are on the verge of sealing an agreement close to Getafe's €20 million demand.
The move is being forced through due to the club's financial constraints, with the proceeds set to ease their Financial Fair Play situation and enable the registration of Neyou, Sancris, Kiko Femenía, Abqar, Juanmi and Javi Muñoz.
Having featured for Getafe on Friday, August 29, the midfielder is now unlikely to join the Super Eagles squad in Uyo on Monday ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Rwanda.
