Ekene Chukwuani: Younger brother of Denmark U21 star joins Monaco in historic deal
Published: September 11, 2025
Through the official website, Danish Superliga club Brondby have announced that Denmark U17 international of Nigerian descent, Ekene Chukwuani has been sold to French outfit AS Monaco in a historic deal.
Ekene is the younger brother of talented SK Sturm Graz midfielder Tochi Chukwuani, who represents Denmark at U21 level.
The 16-year-old has earned himself a move to Monaco after putting himself in the shop window last season, where he scored 28 goals to emerge as the top scorer in the U17 league.
Ekene completed his medical and signed with Monaco on Monday, September 1, with the deal now officially approved following Fifa clearance.
Brondby football director Benjamin Schmedes described the agreement with AS Monaco as historic, noting that it marks the first time a player has been sold directly from the club's Masterclass academy in such a deal.
"The sale of Ekene, who is a very talented striker, is a testament to the fantastic work everyone at Masterclass is doing with our talents," he said.
"This sale is the largest in Masterclass' history. The size of the deal combined with the fact that Ekene has a contract that expires next summer means that we believe it is the right decision to send him on to a large and not least promising team.
"He comes to a club that has developed a host of great players. Not least attackers.
"This can benefit Ekene, and to that extent it can also benefit Brondby IF financially in both the short and long term".
Brondby Masterclass is the youth division of Brondby IF, consisting of players from the U13 to U19 levels.
