'Problem with national team' – Forest boss delivers verdict on Aina fitness before Arsenal trip
Published: September 11, 2025
Nottingham Forest new manager Ange Postecoglou has shed light on Ola Aina’s condition ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in London, confirming the defender had an issue while away on international duty.
The 28-year-old was forced off just ten minutes into Nigeria’s encounter with South Africa earlier this week, raising fears that he could miss crucial club action.
Aina was replaced by Bright Osayi-Samuel in the World Cup qualifier, with early signs suggesting a possible injury setback.
Addressing his squad’s fitness on his first day back with the players, Postecoglou was quoted as saying by The BBC : "We have a clean bill of health apart from Aina.
"He had a problem with the national team. The rest of the boys, today is the first day I’ve had my eyes on them and they’re all fine. Zinchenko is the only one who isn’t fine.”
While the manager stopped short of ruling Aina out, he also did not confirm that the full-back is fully fit, leaving his status for Saturday’s trip to the Emirates Stadium in doubt.
His absence would represent a significant blow for Forest, as he has played every minute of their opening three league fixtures against Brentford, Crystal Palace, and West Ham.
The meeting with Arsenal will mark Postecoglou’s first match in charge of Forest following his recent appointment to succeed Nuno Espírito Santo.
The Australian tactician faces a challenging debut against Mikel Arteta’s side, who remain one of the league’s strongest outfits.
Forest will be hopeful Aina can recover in time, with his versatility and defensive solidity seen as vital assets as they prepare for a stern test in North London.
