Ngumoha's historic strike ranks second in Liverpool's Goal of the Month for August
Published: September 11, 2025
Liverpool teenager Rio Ngumoha has captured the spotlight after his dramatic stoppage-time winner against Newcastle United earned second place in the club’s Goal of the Month award for August 2025.
The fan-voted accolade was announced alongside Dominik Szoboszlai’s long-range free-kick against Arsenal, which claimed first place with nearly 70% of the votes, while Ngumoha’s strike received strong recognition for its composure and significance.
Ngumoha’s historic goal came in the 100th minute during Liverpool’s 3-2 Premier League victory at St. James’ Park on August 25.
Introduced as a stoppage-time substitute, the 17-year-old capitalized on a team move involving nearly every outfield player.
A clever dummy by Szoboszlai allowed Ngumoha to calmly slot the ball past the goalkeeper, completing a comeback after Liverpool had surrendered a two-goal lead against 10-man Newcastle.
The goal also made him Liverpool’s youngest-ever Premier League goalscorer at 16 years and 361 days.
Fans and pundits lauded his goal for its timing, poise, and maturity under pressure, drawing comparisons to other emerging talents.
The strike also earned Ngumoha a nomination for the Premier League’s Goal of the Month.
Hugo Ekitike’s opener in the FA Community Shield against Crystal Palace finished third, while Salah and Federico Chiesa completed the top five.
