Nottingham Forest star Ola Aina breaks silence after undergoing surgery on September 13

Super Eagles defender Ola Aina has broken his silence after sustaining a hamstring injury during Nigeria's 1-1 draw with South Africa on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.

Aina, a key figure for Nottingham Forest, was forced off in the first half of the World Cup qualifier and replaced by Birmingham City full-back Bright Osayi-Samuel.

The Nigerian International was reportedly ruled out for around three months.

In an Instagram post, the 28-year-old confirmed that he successfully underwent surgery on September 13 and has already begun rehabilitation.

He also expressed gratitude to Nottingham Forest, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and fans for their support during this difficult period.

"Surgery went really well and recovery is going smoothly. Looking forward to WHAM. A massive thank you to the club, @officialnffc, my teammates, and all the fans for the incredible for the past few days, it's meant a lot," Aina wrote.

The injury rules him out of several key fixtures for both club and country.

He will miss Nottingham Forest's league and European games over the coming months and is also unavailable for Nigeria's upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Republic of Benin and Lesotho.

Aina, who will also miss the Super Eagles' friendly versus Venezuela in November, is racing against the clock to regain full fitness before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
