Chile 1-1 Nigeria: Akinyele strikes as Flying Eagles held by La Rojita in pre-World Cup friendly

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles began their preparations for the upcoming FIFA U20 World Cup with a 1-1 draw against Chile's La Rojita in their first warm-up game in South America.

Ahmed Akinyele provided the breakthrough, but the South Americans hit back to deny Aliyu Zubairu’s side a winning start to their build-up.

The Nigerians settled quickly into the contest and looked sharp in midfield. Their early pressure paid off in the 18th minute when Tahir Maigana's well-delivered corner was met by Akinyele, who rose highest to power home a header and give the Flying Eagles a deserved lead.

The goal reflected Nigeria’s dominance in the opening exchanges, with Daniel Bameyi leading confidently from the back.

Chile responded strongly and restored parity in the 36th minute, punishing a lapse in concentration from the Nigerian defense.

Despite the setback, the Flying Eagles continued to compete well, showing resilience and flashes of attacking intent through Charles Agada and Ayuma Israel.

Coach Zubairu made several changes in the second half to give opportunities to his bench, but neither side could find a decisive goal.

The Flying Eagles will next face Australia on Tuesday, September 23, in their second tune-up match as preparations intensify.
