African connection: Man Utd loanee Onana assists Onuachu to score crucial goal for Trabzonspor
Published: September 20, 2025
Super Eagles forward Paul Onuachu was on target once more as Trabzonspor came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against Gaziantep in a Turkish Super Lig clash at the Papara Park.
The visitors had taken the lead in the first half through Kévin Rodrigues, but Onuachu restored parity for the hosts 20 minutes from time.
The Nigerian international latched onto a precise long ball from Manchester United-owned Cameroon goalkeeper André Onana, before calmly chipping past the goalkeeper to level the contest.
The goal was Onuachu's third in six league appearances this season, having earlier scored against Kocaelispor and Samsunspor.
Since sealing a permanent switch to Turkey after a difficult spell in England, the striker has quickly become an influential figure in Trabzonspor's attack.
The draw lifts Trabzonspor to 11 points and fourth place on the league table, four points adrift of leaders Galatasaray, who have played a game less.
Onuachu will now look to maintain his fine form as the club aims to mount a serious title challenge this season.
He will also be hoping that his fine form earns him a recall to the Super Eagles squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in October.
