'If Man Utd, Chelsea or Man City had scored that goal' – Spurs icon hails excellent Iwobi
Published: September 23, 2025
Tottenham Hotspur legend Glenn Hoddle has praised Alex Iwobi for his overall performance during Fulham's come-from-behind win over Brentford on Saturday, saying he was outstanding in all aspects of his game during the matchday five clash at Craven Cottage.
Iwobi's exquisite assist stole the spotlight from the crucial goal that sparked Fulham's comeback.
Five minutes before halftime, the Fulham number 17 threaded a precise right-footed pass into the path of Harry Wilson, who guided his finish into the far corner past the Brentford goalkeeper.
Hoddle hailed Iwobi, singling out his superb assist for Wilson's strike, which put the Cottagers ahead just before the interval.
"Iwobi has been excellent today in everything he’s done,” Hoddle said on Premier League Productions .
"His body weight is coming over to the left, he has to in order to play the pass.
"And then Wilson takes it first time, the goalkeeper can’t get his body back to make the save, but it's a wonderful goal."
Hoddle suggested that Fulham's second goal would have drawn even greater plaudits had it been scored by one of the Premier League's biggest clubs.
"It was Fulham that scored here. If Manchester United, Chelsea or Man City had scored that goal, we would have been purring about it," the former England manager concluded.
Iwobi's stellar display against Brentford has earned widespread recognition, with the Nigeria international named in the Teams of the Week selected by Troy Deeney for the BBC, Alan Shearer for the Premier League and Whoscored.
