'One of the best in the country' - European football expert says Fulham ace Iwobi is underappreciated
Published: September 28, 2025
European football expert Julien Laurens has lavished praise on Alex Iwobi, describing the Nigeria international as one of the Premier League's most underrated players.
Iwobi has been in fine form for Fulham this season and drew plaudits for his outstanding performance in last weekend's 3-1 victory over Brentford, where he both scored and provided an assist.
The 29-year-old was named in Marco Silva's starting XI for Sunday's clash with Aston Villa and now stands just three matches away from reaching the landmark of 300 Premier League appearances.
Last season marked Iwobi's most productive campaign in England's top flight as he recorded 15 goal involvements (9 goals, 6 assists) across 38 matches.
His consistency and versatility have made him a key figure at Craven Cottage.
Laurens believes both Iwobi and Fulham boss Silva remain underappreciated, particularly given the challenges of competing against wealthier rivals in the division.
"Imagine what Marco Silva could do if he had proper investment," Julien Laurens said on BBC Radio 5 Live.
"I think they are underrated. I think Iwobi is underrated and Marco Silva is massively underrated in this country."
The French analyst also singled out the flourishing partnership between Iwobi and left-back Antonee Robinson, describing their link-up play as a standout feature of Fulham’s game.
"I think that left side partnership of Robinson and Iwobi is one of the best in the country."
Fulham acquired Kevin and Benjamin Lecomte in the summer transfer window, while Samuel Chukwueze and Jonah Kusi-Asare were loaned in from European giants AC Milan and Bayern Munich.
