Turkish pundit defends Icardi, says he carried Galatasaray when Osimhen was injured
Published: October 04, 2025
Turkish pundit Levent Tuzemen has defended Mauro Icardi, insisting that the Argentine striker deserves respect for his contribution to Galatasaray.
Speaking on A Spor, Tuzemen criticized those calling for Icardi's departure and highlighted his role in supporting the team during Victor Osimhen’s injury absence.
"Shame on those who said Icardi should go. Who carried the team in the league when Osimhen wasn’t there?" Levent Tuzemen said, as quoted by habesarikirmizi.
"He has five goals! How did this Icardi hatred suddenly arise? People tweet saying 'I should be different.'
"Icardi is Galatasaray’s phenomenon. He has some physical shortcomings, but the doctor said, 'He’ll recover after October,'"
Tuzemen continued his defense of the forward, emphasizing Icardi's commitment and influence at the club.
"While Osimhen was injured, he somehow put you on his back. He’s been with Galatasaray since the day he arrived!” he added.
Icardi came on as a substitute for Osimhen in the 86th minute of Galatasaray's hard-fought 1-1 draw against Besiktas on Saturday.
The match saw both teams battle intensely, with Galatasaray relying on their attacking options late in the game.
The striker has scored five goals so far this season and has continued to feature regularly for the Turkish Super Lig champions.
Despite physical issues, he remains part of the matchday squad and continues to contribute whenever called upon.
