FAITH IKIDI Set To Sign New Three - Year Contract
Published: November 04, 2012
25 - year - old Falcons defender Faith Ikidi, who is widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the Damallsvenskan, is close to agreeing terms with Piteå IF on a new three - year contract which would prolong her stay in Northern Sweden until November, 2015, reports in Sweden suggest.
Desperately looking for a central defender, Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC had been monitoring the situation of Ikidi, and planned to lure her to the club. Now, everything is pointing to the fact that Ikidi will reject their overtures and pledge her loyalty to Pitea IF by putting pen to paper on a new contract.
''Now I want to completely write a long-term contract of three years. My friends had previously advised me to sign for a year but now I want to sign for a longer period. But I want to first hear what Piteå says,'' Ikidi was quoted as saying by nsd.se.
Ikidi ought to be with the Falcons, who are vying for their seventh AWC crown, in Equatorial Guinea. But she decided to remain with Piteå IF and assist the team finish the season strongly.
''I want of course to play for my country, but I chose to stay and play in Piteå. We have the chance to be seventh in the league,'' she said.
The experienced defender scored her only goal this campaign against Vittsjö (2 - 0) last week.
