Sodje's Pompey Deal In Doubt
Published: August 12, 2013
Former Super Eagles defender, Sam Sodje, has revealed that his much expected move to Portsmouth may not see the light of day after all.
The 2008 FA Cup winners told reporters that Portsmouth want him take a pay cut for the deal to go through.
Sodje, who is a free agent however seems unperturbed by the development as he added that there is another offer from League One side, Tranmere Rovers, that parades his younger brother Akpo.
"The deal would have been concluded by now but Pompey asked that I should take a pay cut for me to sign for them."
"My agents and myself rejected their offer and I could eventually take the offer coming from Tranmere Rovers where my younger brother, Akpo plays for."
"Aside Portsmouth, I had an offer from Greece but I rejected it because my family are settled in England but that cannot be a reason for me to accept what Pompey demanded."
"I'm a free agent; so I'm not really worried by this turn of events. I wanted to play for them because they have a rich history where Nigerian stars had made name for themselves like Kanu and Utaka," Sodje stated.
