Stoke City And Hamburg Ended Kelechi Iheanacho Chase Due To Antics Of His Dad
Published: June 26, 2015
Nigeria youth international Kelechi Iheanacho would have been a player of Stoke City instead of Manchester City.
The Flying Eagles star was also on the radar of Hamburg and Porto following his exploits at the 2013 Fifa Under 17 World Cup.
But according to the intermediary that represented the three European clubs during negotiations, Tony Udemagwuna, the teams pulled the plug on the deal after he discovered that Kelechi’s dad, James Iheanacho, had signed mandates with different agents.
“Stoke City, Porto and Hamburg wanted Kelechi Iheanacho and offered him a contract,” said Tony Udemagwuna to news24.
“I was told that Kelechi’s father had given six different people mandates to transfer the player so they called off negotiations.”
Apart from the interest from England and Germany, the Taye Academy product was heavily courted by PAOK, Sporting Lisbon, Udinese, Monaco and Chelsea before sealing his move to the Etihad Stadium.
