Bature And Salami On Target As Super Eagles Beat Burkina Faso
Published: October 17, 2015
Nigeria posted a 2-0 win over Burkina Faso in a 2016 African Nations Championship final qualifying round, first leg match at the Adokiye Amiesiamaka Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Super Eagles gained a first leg advantage thanks to goals from Yaro Bature and Gbolahan Salami.
Ailing Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh took his seat on the bench after it looked like he will miss the first leg due to ill health.
Nigeria donned their traditional all-green stripes with a slash of white, while Burkina Faso were in all-white with trimmings of red and green.
It was a disappointing turnout at the stadium with most of the seats empty.
Nasarawa United winger Bature bagged the opener in the 25th minute and substitute Salami, who plays for Warri Wolves, added the second on 76 minutes from the penalty spot.
The return leg will be played in Ouagadougou in the next seven days.
Super Eagles Starters Vs Etalons: Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Solomon Kwambe, Chima Akas, Austin Obaroakpo, Jamiu Alimi, Paul Onobi, Matthew Ifeanyi, Yaro Bature, Ezekiel Bassey, Tunde Adeniji, Okoro Osas
Reserves: Femi Thomas, Stephen Eze, Prince Aggreh, Gholohan Salami, Usman Mohammed, Chisom Chikatara, Kalu Orji
