Fanendo Adi Says FC Dallas Put Up A Fight Against Portland Timbers
Published: November 30, 2015
Portland Timbers survived a late scare to advance to the final of the MLS Cup Final after playing out a 2 - 2 draw with FC Dallas in the second leg of their Western Conference Championship series.
Nigerian striker Fanendo Adi netted his 18th goal in the MLS this term in the 54th minute but the home team turned the screw, scoring through Ryan Hollingshead and Blas Perez before Lucas Santiago Melano restored parity for Timbers in the 90th minute.
Adi was delighted that the Oregon - based outfit qualified for the final but admitted that Dallas gave them a run for their money.
“It was a great game. We came in believing it was going to be a tough one. Dallas was going to give us a tough one, and they did,” Fanendo Adi told timbers.com.
“We’re not surprised with what they came with, because we expected them to come very strong.
“For us, it was to try and get a goal and push forward. When we got the second goal we knew it put us in the Cup.”
Portland Timbers will take on Columbus Crew on December 6 in the MLS Cup final to be staged at MAPFRE Stadium, Columbus, Ohio.
