Arsenal-Bound Kelechi Nwakali To Start Training With Nigeria U20s On Monday
Published: April 07, 2016
Ex-Golden Eaglets skipper Kelechi Nwakali will fly into Lagos on Sunday evening from the United Kingdom.
The Diamond Academy/ASJ central midfielder has been in London for the past three weeks familiarizing himself with English Premier League team Arsenal after penning a preliminary contract which will start running in the summer.
“The Nigeria Football Federation has invited him to join the Under 20 team, he will arrive in Lagos on Sunday and will begin training with the team on Monday,” a source close to Nwakali told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“Arsenal won’t stop him from the training camp, what they just need is a letter of invitation from the NFF. They can’t deny him the opportunity of representing Nigeria.”
The 17-year-old Kelechi is following in the footsteps of his elder brother, Manchester City loanee Chidiebere Nwakali, who was an important player for the Golden Eaglets before he was promoted to the Flying Eagles.
