Amuneke Takes A Leaf Out Of Manu Garba Book;Appoints Nwakali Nigeria U20s Skipper
Published: April 08, 2016
Arsenal-bound midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has been appointed captain of the Nigeria U20s squad by coach Emmanuel Amuneke.
Regarded as one of his favorite pupils, the former Barcelona and Zamalek winger decided to name the Diamond/ASJ Academy poster boy his skipper because of his personality and leadership skills.
On top of that, Emmanuel Amuneke is taking a leaf out of coach Manu Garba’s book after he appointed Musa Mohammed the skipper of the Nigeria U20s few months after the Golden Eaglets won the World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
To put it another way, majority of the players that have been invited to the get-together starting next week are the same bunch of youngsters that played together at the 2015 Fifa U17s in Chile, so Amuneke has logically decided to maintain the status quo as regards to his skipper.
The 17-year-old Kelechi Nwakalis is presently in the United Kingdom but will arrive in Lagos on Sunday evening before resuming training with the Flying Eagles the following day.
