Arsenal Target Kelechi Nwakali Misses Out On 1.1 Million Euros Ajax Amsterdam Deal
Published: May 26, 2016
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Flying Eagles skipper Kelechi Nwakali was offered a four-year contract by Ajax Amsterdam after displaying his wares at the 2015 Fifa Under 17 World Cup in Chile.
The Eredivisie powerhouse had made a bid in the region of 1.5 million euros but the proposal was turned down by ASJ/Diamond Academy who were in advanced talks with Arsenal over his signing.
Nwakali would have earned a minimum of €1.1 milion over the duration of his contract if he had agreed a move to Ajax Amsterdam, as he would have been classified as a non-EU player.
The 17-year-old midfielder is due to sign a five-year deal with Arsenal in the coming days when he clocks 18, barring an unforeseen last-minute snag.
He had been on the wishlist of Olympiakos, Fenerbahce, Udinese and Sporting Clube de Portugal before his camp started negotiations with the Gunners.
