Dimgba, Awoniyi, Saviour & Yusuf Are Olympic Team Alternate Players
Published: July 21, 2016
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been included in Nigeria’s squad for the Olympic Games as an alternate player.
Per Olympic Games rules, players handed the numbers 19-22 jerseys are not officially in the roster and will only be allowed to play in Brazil if one of the players included in the 18-man list suffers an injury during the competition.
Awoniyi made the alternate roster alongside Bala Yusuf (Kano Pillars), Stanley Dimgba (Sunshine Stars) and Saviour Godwin.
These four players will travel with the Dream Team VI to Brazil, as any of the 18 players can be replaced at any time even after the first match against Japan so long as a Fifa approved doctor confirms a player is injured.
