Stranded Nigeria U23s Hoping To Fly To Brazil On Wednesday
Published: August 03, 2016
With just over twenty four hours left before the Dream Team’s first game against Japan at the Olympic Games, players and officials have not jetted out to Brazil.
The Nigeria U23s were due to fly to Brazil on Friday, July 29 but could not do so because of the unavailability of funds to purchase plane tickets.
“The players and officials did not travel on Tuesday, the players are not certain when they will travel to Brazil until they board the plane, ” a top source told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“They are hoping to travel today and this arrangement is not good when their first game is on Thursday(Friday morning Nigerian time).
“The Nigerian Federation and Sports Ministry have put the boys under a lot of stress which has destroyed their morale. ”
In the event that officials fail to hire a private jet to Manaus, the squad will have to fly out to Brazil in batches as earlier planned.
