Wolverhampton Wanderers are sweating on the fitness of Nigeria goalkeeper Carl Ikeme ahead of their next competitive fixture against Derby County in the Football League Championship.
The shot-stopper had to be replaced before the start of the second half in Wolves’ 1-1 draw at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday after picking up a hip injury when he stretched to make a save.
Both the Molineux Stadium and Ikeme have released a statement, hoping that the injury sustained by the Nigerian is not a long-term injury.
“Carl Ikeme had a hip injury which Rob hopes isn’t too serious. Pleased to see Andy Lonergan make a positive impact when he came on, ” Wolves said in a statement via Twitter.
Ikeme added : “We deserved at least a point and lads all dug in. Hopefully injury nothing to serious.Congrats @_DaveEdwards great goal and performance ðð¾.”
It is envisaged that the goalkeeper will undergo tests in the coming days to determine the severity of the injury.
