Top Five Performers Super Eagles Training: Arsenal's Iwobi, Etebo Among Standouts
Published: June 07, 2017
The Super Eagles continued preparations for the African Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa, with a training session held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Wednesday morning.
Based on the practice game between Team A and Team B, the standout performers were Alex Iwobi, Oghenekaro Etebo, Kayode Olanrewaju, Uche Agbo and John Ogu.
Alex Iwobi: The Arsenal star positioned himself well to receive passes from midfield, combined well with midfielders and forwards. Had a good passing variation (long and short).
He was behind the best chances created by his side, simply put he was the heart of Team B.
Oghenekaro Etebo : He was his usual robust self, combined well with his teammates especially Iwobi. He moved the ball well while gliding through tackles.
Kayode Olanrewaju : The Austria Vienna frontman showed why he emerged as the top scorer in the Austrian Bundesliga this past season. He showed desire to score and had a couple of shots on target.
John Ogu : He was deployed as a central defender and passed the test with flying colours. Held the ball well under pressure and gave stability (calming presence) to his defensive partners. He passed the ball well out of defense.
The Hapoel Beer Sheva star was up against four quick forwards in Oshimen, Kayode, Onyekuru and Musa and prevented them from finding the net, he deserves a pat on the back from manager Gernot Rohr.
Uche Agbo : Put in a good defensive shift to put the opposing team at bay. Made some fine runs with the ballĀ from his half .
Worthy of mention Alhassan Ibrahim : Never fazed by this big stage with the Super Eagles. Certainly one for the near future. Little wonder he was the only retained home-based players from the three recently invited.
