'Osimhen can single-handedly bring any team to its knees' - Former Liverpool forward warns Ajax
Published: November 05, 2025
Former Liverpool forward Ryan Babel has issued a stern warning to Ajax ahead of their meeting with Victor Osimhen, describing the Nigerian striker as a truly lethal striker capable of dismantling any opposition on his own.
The Amsterdam giants face Turkish champions Galatasaray on Wednesday night at the Johan Cruijff ArenA, with Osimhen expected to lead the line for the visitors.
The Super Eagles star has continued his fine form from last season, scoring six goals in ten appearances so far, despite dealing with fitness concerns earlier in the campaign.
Osimhen will be looking to extend his impressive club record of scoring in seven consecutive European matches to eight in Amsterdam.
Babel, who played for both Ajax and Galatasaray during his career, admitted that his former Dutch side would face a daunting challenge in trying to contain Osimhen's explosive power and predatory instincts.
He told Sabah: "I think Ajax will have a hard time stopping Osimhen . He is a truly lethal striker. He can single-handedly bring any team to its knees".
Osimhen has faced Ajax four times in his career, scoring twice, though he has been on the losing side in all but one of those encounters.
The two clubs met for the first time on matchday 8 of last season's UEFA Europa League when Kian Fitz-Jim netted a game-winning goal to hand Ajax a 2–1 victory, despite Osimhen's added-time consolation for the visitors.
