Why Ross Barkley Rejected Last-Minute Move To Chelsea
Published: September 01, 2017
England midfielder of Nigerian parentage Ross Barkley will remain at Everton after all after rejecting a deadline day move to Premier League champions Chelsea, according to reports.
According to the online edition of Guardian UK, Chelsea had agreed a fee of 35 million pounds with the Toffees but Barkley pulled the plug at the last minute because he wanted to join Tottenham Hotspur.
''The two clubs agreed a deal of 35 million pounds, personal terms agreed, and after a medical we heard from Paul Martin, Ross Barkley's agent, that he had changed his mind," Everton majority shareholder Moshiri told Sky Sports.
"He wants to reconsider his position in the January window."
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Fernando Llorente, and Romelu Lukaku were heavily courted by Chelsea this summer but chose to join Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United respectively.
