Arsenal And Chelsea Linked Winger Wanted To Join Manchester United On Deadline Day
Published: September 03, 2017
Current African Footballer of the Year, Riyad Mahrez, was hoping to join Manchester United on transfer deadline day, as per reports.
The Daily Star claims the winger's mystery trip on transfer deadline day was made in the hope of clinching a move to Manchester United.
Riyad Mahrez had already announced his desire to move onto pastures new in the summer transfer market, and was permitted by the Algerian Federation to leave the national team in order to complete a transfer to an unnamed club.
But Leicester City did not receive any offers from the clubs linked with a move for Mahrez, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona and Paris St-Germain.
Manchester United had been in the market for a winger with Ivan Perisic their number one target, and Mahrez was hoping that the Old Trafford outfit will turn their attention to him after missing out on the Inter Milan star.
