Iwobi, Akpom Not In 18 As Arsenal Win Eighth Straight Home Game
Published: September 25, 2017
Arsenal are within touching distance of the top four teams in the Premier League following their 2-0 win over West Brom at the Emirates Stadium in the final game of match day six in the English top-flight.
Nigeria international Alex Iwobi was presumably rested for Thursday's Europa League fixture against BATE and didn't even make the match day squad, along with Super Eagles hopeful Chuba Akpom.
But there was a start for Wales' 2016 European Championship star Hal Robson-Kanu, who spent five years at the Gunners Academy before joining Reading.
Arsenal dominated possession and took the lead through their record signing Alexandre Lacazette, who scored with a header after a free kick from Alexis Sanchez rebounded off the crossbar in the 20th minute.
West Brom will be disappointed that they were not level at the break, with Jay Rodriguez hitting the post and his header cleared off the line by Nacho Monreal.
Midway through the second half, referee Madley made a massive call when he awarded a penalty to Arsenal after Allan Nyom committed a foul on Aaron Ramsey in the penalty area.
And it was game over when Lacazette coolly converted the spot-kick to give Arsenal a two-goal lead.
Arsene Wenger's team have won their last eight home games in the Premier League.
