Through their official website, Premier League champions Chelsea have confirmed that promising central defender Jack Wakely has signed his first professional contract with the club, shortly after he celebrated his seventeenth birthday.
Born in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, Wakely joined Chelsea as an U-9 player, and first penned a scholarship deal with the London club in July 2017.
Confirming the new deal, Chelsea wrote : ''He has a fantastic attitude and maturity, which he uses to excel both academically and on the pitch, and was involved as an unused substitute for the youth team last season.
''He can play anywhere across the back three or either side of the centre-back pairing.
''In October 2017, he signed a first professional contract at the club until the summer of 2020.''
This season, Wakely has established himself as a regular for Chelsea's U18 team, starting and going the distance in each of their nine games in the U18 Premier League.
