Rohr, Nigeria Will Be Worried As Wenger Provides Fresh Update On Iwobi Injury
Published: February 23, 2018
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has provided another update on the injury sustained by Nigeria international Alex Iwobi in the closing minutes of his side's 2-1 loss to Ostersunds in the Europa League on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters post-match, Wenger had suggested that the initial prognosis was that the Super Eagles winger only suffered cramps, which forced the Frenchman into substituting him in stoppage time.
Ahead of the Gunners League Cup final clash with Manchester City, Wenger has now admitted that Iwobi's fitness is questionable and the Hale End Academy graduate will be closely monitored in the next two days.
''From Thursday night, we don’t know what kind of state Alex Iwobi is in, for example,'' Wenger told reporters.
''We will know that today and tomorrow. But overall, we have no injuries from last night. Some players were rested, they are alright.
''After that, I have to make a decision on Aaron Ramsey on Saturday. He looks OK, but we will know more about it tomorrow.''
Iwobi was one of the players certain to be named on the Nigerian roster for their upcoming friendlies against Poland and Serbia next month and this latest information from the English capital will not be sweet music to the ears of manager Gernot Rohr.
