Super Eagles Invitee Awaziem Hoping To Play First Game In Two Months For Nantes
Published: March 04, 2018
Chidozie Awaziem, who has received an international call up for the upcoming friendlies against Poland and Serbia, has been named in Nantes provisional squad for their Ligue 1 match against Marseille.
This wouldn't have been news in the first half of the season, but the Nigeria international has struggled for game time this calendar year, missing the last six matches contested by the Canaries in the league..
Due to a thigh injury, Awaziem was omitted from the Nantes squad for the matches against Bordeaux, Guingamp, Caen and Lille, while he was a non-playing substitute in the last two games against OGC Nice and Amiens.
The central defender was among the six defenders that traveled to Marseille for the game week 28 tie, and it would be his first match since January 17 if he is handed game time by manager Claudio Ranieri.
Last summer, Awaziem joined Nantes on a season-long loan from Porto, for whom he has made 13 first-team appearances.
In his three appearances for the national team, he went the full ninety against Togo, South Africa and Argentina.
