Bursaspor Star Shehu Happy To Get Call-Up For Super Eagles Duty
Published: March 07, 2018
Bursaspor defender Abdullahi Shehu is happy to receive an invitation from the Nigerian Federation ahead of the national team's pre-World Cup friendlies against Poland and Serbia.
Four of the twenty eight players called up are based in Turkey - Abdullahi Shehu, Eddy Onazi, Kenneth Omeruo and William Troost-Ekong- but Shehu's teammate Mikel Agu was dropped.
''I'm delighted to have received @NGSuperEagles invitation for the friendlies against Poland and Serbia,'' said Shehu on Twitter.
''It's a great honour to represent my dear country! Thanks @thenff, Gernot Rohr, my fans in Nigeria and @BursasporSk.''.
The 24-year-old Shehu will compete for a spot at right-back with ADO Den Haag's Tyronne Ebuehi, Hull City's Ola Aina and Amkar Perm's Brian Idowu.
The former Kano Pillars star would be hoping he has done enough to impress Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr at the end of the friendlies, with the German expected to name his provisional roster for the World Cup before the next ten weeks.
He helped Nigeria's U23 team pick up the bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games and represented the Flying Eagles at the 2013 Fifa U20 World Cup.
