Nigeria U20 Coach: We Have Dropped Two Flying Eagles Invitees Due To Age-Cheating
Published: March 08, 2018
The Nigeria National U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, have dropped two players due to age-cheating.
Though the names of the players were not revealed, assistant coach of the team Abubakar Bala told allnigeriasoccer.com in Abuja that the players were born before January 1, 1999.
''We invited 30 players, 22 are in camp but unfortunately we have to drop two players because of the age in their passport is over the age we are expecting. So we had to drop them, we didn't allow them to train,'' Abubakar Bala said.
''The ones that are not around are the ones participating in the CAF Champions League, Confederation Cup and I believe some of them will be around tomorrow, next tomorrow.''
Nigeria will face either Guinea Bissau or Sierra Leone in the second round of the 2019 Africa U20 Cup of Nations qualifiers, with the first leg to be played on 11-13 May and the second leg a week later.
It is understood that the Nigerian Federation are in talks with their Egyptian counterparts over a friendly match before the U20 team play their first competitive game.
