Published: March 26, 2018
Manchester City midfielder of Nigerian descent Felix Nmecha made his full debut for Germany across all levels as Germany U18s were beaten 4-2 by France in a friendly staged at Stadion am Bad, Markranstädt on Monday afternoon.
Nigeria, England and Germany are in a three-way fight over the international future of the very promising teenager who can play in several positions in midfield but it is the German Football Association that are in pole position for his services based on recent developments.
The English Football Association handed Felix Nmecha a call-up to join the U18 team for their friendlies this month against Qatar, Argentina and Belarus, while the Nigerian Federation are keeping tabs on his progress ahead of the 2019 Fifa U20 World Cup.
Having represented England at U16 level, the central midfielder made his maiden appearance for Germany U18s off the bench in their 2-2 draw with France on March 23.
Today, Monday, Germany U18s manager Guido Streichsbier named Nmecha in the starting line-up in the second game against the same opponents and the City youngster was on the pitch for 83 minutes before subbing out.
His brother Lukas Nmecha was initially included in England U20s squad list for their games against Poland and Portugal, but the striker withdrew from the squad citing injury.
